Meet Dr. Amaka Akalonu

Dr. Amaka Akalonu is a double board certified in Pediatric Gastroenterology and General Pediatrics with extensive experience caring for children with a wide range of gastrointestinal conditions. She completed her Pediatrics Residency at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in 2013 and her Pediatric Gastroenterology Fellowship at Nemours/A.l. duPont Hospital for Children in 2017.

After completing her training, Dr. Akalonu joined Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston, where she practiced as an attending PediatricSastroenterologist from 2017 to 2025. She is known for her compassionate, family-centered approach to care, prioritizing clear communication, thoughtful listening, and strong partnerships with patients and their families.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Akalonu enjoys spending time with her family, cooking, watching movies, and exploring various outdoor activities.
